3 Essential tips for coffee storage -STORAGE PLACE- (2/3)

STORAGE

Tip 2/3

STORAGE

As soon as your coffee (beans) comes into contact with oxygen, the aromas and flavours decrease. It is therefore very important to keep your coffee (beans) airtight.

Heat, moisture and light ensure that your coffee quickly becomes stale. So keep your coffee in a cool, dry and dark place.

— Store coffee in the freezer or refrigerator?

Since the refrigerator is a collection of different scents, and coffee is strong at absorbing odours, it is not recommended to keep coffee in the refrigerator. In addition, the coffee will age faster because the moisture content in the refrigerator is much too high.

You can store your coffee in the freezer, on the condition that it is vacuum packed. If not, the coffee will also absorb moisture and odours from other foods.

— Storing coffee at home, where’s the best place?

The ideal spot would be where you prepare your coffee, for most that would be the kitchen. Store in an (airtight) container in a cool, dry, dark spot, like the cupboard. Make sure your ground coffee or coffee beans don’t come in contact with oxygen! This means using an airtight vacuum container or leave the coffee in the original coffee bag that is lined with a special aluminium foil for conservation. Once you’ve opened your coffee bag, push all the air out, and close the bag with a clip or elastic band. Just a little effort for big results!
